Joona Fabriculture (on Park Street in Alameda, CA) has two areas of specialty: Custom design & fabrication of furnishings for home and office, plus a retail and educational wing offering one-of-a-kind Art Furnishings, DIY classes for adults & all the supplies to create your own masterpieces! We create upholstery, curtains and shades, bench cushions, throw pillows, upholstery sculpture, lampshades, and ornaments & seasonal decorations, as well as painted furniture and have hundreds of happy clients! We offer a carefully curated selection of modern and contemporary home decor fabrics including bargain bolt ends and a sample gallery for custom orders. Our DIY supplies include upholstery tools, paint brushes, rollers & prep materials, and all the interior bits needed for upholstery. Due to our owner's experience with chemical sensitivity, Joona specializes in natural cushioning materials that are free of toxic chemical flame retardants. We offer latex, wool & organic cotton batting, as well as sprung options. Some products may require special orders, as we are a small shop and may have relatively small quantities of any given material in stock at a given moment. We also custom order polyurethane foam for clients who prefer a product that requires less investment. Our founder Jeanne Henzel is an artist and artisan who has been making beautiful things for client's homes for 20 years (as of 2018). Her upholstery sculpture (solo and in collaboration with others) has been presented at the SFMOMA, Oakland Museum of California, Berkeley Art Museum/PFA, Chabot Space & Science Center, and the Anderson Collection at Stanford University as well as being part of the permanent collection of the San Jose Museum of Art. Jeanne is married & has an 11-year old daughter.
